Ronin Wallet: What It Is and Which Type You Need

Learn how to identify a traditional Ronin Wallet, a social wallet in the extension, Waypoint or Stash before creating or recovering an address.

Update, October 2, 2026: If you still hold assets in Ronin Waypoint, move them before October 16, 2026. Assets left in a Waypoint wallet may become inaccessible, and signing in to Stash with the same email does not move them. See the official migration notice.

Does a game ask you to connect Ronin Wallet, leaving you unsure whether you need to create another account? First identify which address and access method you are using. A wallet manages assets and lets you approve transactions. A game account may be linked to it, but they are not the same thing.

Identify your access method

  • Traditional wallet: Created with a Secret Recovery Phrase. The phrase lets you restore the same wallet. The device passcode does not replace it.
  • Social wallet in the extension: Some wallets created with an email or social account in the extension use a Recovery Password for restoration. This differs from the recovery phrase and local passcode. (Official desktop guide)
  • Ronin Waypoint: An older social wallet that is being retired. It has a different address from Stash; using the same email does not move your assets. See the update at the top of this guide.
  • Ronin Stash: A newer way to access a wallet with an email or supported social provider. Migrating from Waypoint creates a new address. (Official announcement)

How to decide

  1. If you have played before: First check the address your game uses and how you signed in. Do not create a new wallet assuming it will recover your assets.
  2. If you choose a recovery phrase: Follow the traditional wallet setup and store the phrase off the device before receiving assets.
  3. If you choose social access: Note whether you are using the extension, Waypoint or Stash. A social wallet in the extension may require its Recovery Password for restoration. If you use Waypoint, migrate before the deadline above. If you use Stash, maintain access to your sign-in method and review the official backup options.
  4. Before connecting a game: Confirm the selected address in your wallet. If you have multiple addresses, the balance in one will not automatically appear in another.

Ronin lets you import existing wallets, but the method must match the wallet's origin: a phrase or private key for a traditional wallet; for a social wallet in the extension, its associated sign-in method and, where applicable, its Recovery Password. Waypoint and Stash have their own procedures. (Official desktop guide)
